Adolphe-Marie BeaufrèreI am listing several really exceptional etchings by Adolphe-Marie Beaufrère (1878-1960). Beaufrère was a modernist French artist born in Quimperlé, strongly influenced by the "Ecole de Pont-Aven". These etchings are sophisticated, modernist etchings that show Beaufrere's immense artistic ability.![]() Adolphe-Marie Beaufrère - "Aux Moneghettis (Monaco)"Description: This etchings is titled: "Aux Moneghettis (Monaco)". Beaufrere did a number of Monaco etchings. This etching shows a small, lone figure seated in a forest, surrounded by several goats.The figure is nearly lost in the immense trees of nature around him or her.The trees are done in a modernist style with stunning etching technique and detail.The result is a nearly 3 -dimensional or cubist result.This comes matted and oak framed.Size: Etching (33cm x 26.5cm), with frame (54cm x 48cm) Marks: Dated in the plate 1932, handsigned and numbered 11/60, blindstamp of "Editions Sagot Paris" Condition: Very good, some foxing and age toning. From Brittany himself Beaufrere did a number of Brittany etchings, especially from the "Finistere" region. This etching has been frame in the past, hence some areas still have the original paper support. Would look fantatsic nicely framed!Size: Etching (19.5cm x 16.6cm), all size (24.61cm x 20.5cm) Marks: Dated and signed in the plate 1925, handsigned and numbered 7/40, blindstamp from the Sagot editeur in Paris. Price: Please contact us Paul Emile Lecomte (1877-1950)Born in Paris, Paul Emile Lecomte was the pupil of his father Paul (1842-1920) and Cormon. Although most of his subjects were French landscapes and coast scenes, predominantly of Brittany, he also worked in Cornwall, and painted still life. He became a Member of the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1902, and received a Gold Medal. He was also an official artist for the Maritime Ministry.![]() Paul Emile Lecomte - "Jeune bretonne regardant la mer"Description: Superb large atmospheric scene of a Breton women looking out to the sea. Condition: Excellent. Price: Please contact us Emile-Auguste Wery (1868-1935)French painter. He trained in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and started exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning medals in 1897, 1898 and 1900. As a young man he introduced his friend and neighbour, Matisse, to an Impressionist style. Wéry, however, courted official success despite working in an Impressionist manner in such works as Ferrymen of Amsterdam (Paris, Mus. A. Mod. Ville Paris). In 1906 he exhibited a decorative frieze (untitled, repr. in The Studio, xxxvi, 1906, p. 368) at the Exposition Universelle in Liège and later that year was made Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur. He continued working in a decorative mode and received a diplôme d’honneur from the French government in 1925.![]() Emile-Auguste Wery - "Bretonne sur fond marin"Description: Another original lithograph from "L'Estampe moderne" series. In 1919, upon his demobilization, Pierre de Belay took up residence in Paris, and stayed there for the rest of his life. Watson (1846-1927)English painter and etcher known for his depictions of land, ports and markets, streets, rivers, churches and animals. He was born in Norwich and was an original member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers andEngravers which was founded in 1881. He won medals for his work at the International Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 and Paris in 1900. He worked extensively in Norfolk, also in Italy and France. Principal subjects include St Jacques, Dieppe, vespers, Interior of St Mark's, Venice and a road at Stokesby, Norfolk. He was married to the artist Minna Bolingbroke. ![]() Charles J. Watson -Description: This is a wonderful etching by Charles J Watson (1846-1927), I am guessing this is a view of Canterbury. There are no clues on the etching as to the title. This etching is superb with lovely details and a fine impression around the picture it is framed and glazed in a contemporary frame and is in perfect condition.Size: Etching (21cm x 18cm), Frame (55cm x 38cm) Marks:It is signed on the etching in pencil in the bottom left and is marked with his name and a date of 1896 in the plate.
