Quimper, its factories and its artists...

Quimper has been famous for its ceramics for well more than three centuries now. The artists that work for the main two factories such as HB, Henriot and the artists that have worked independantly such as Paul Fouillen, have all produced art pieces that have transcended time and genre. We will try to offer as much variety of artworks from the Twentieth century as possible as we go along, and have decided to present items per factory and then per artist when known. Should you have any remarks or have any extra information on some of the items on this site please let us know.

HB - Broderie - "Perlé"

Description: Very large broderie dish from the HB factory. Unusual decor of birds. The broderie technique or "Perlé" was abandoned becaus of its high cost of production. A real gem.

Size: 52.5cm x 33.5 cm x 4cm.

Marks: "HB Quimper 466".

Conditions: Perfect, apart from a Tiny ding at the back (pictures on demand).

Paul Fouillen

Description: Large vase made by Paul Fouillen. Superbe colors, handles and fine "sponge works". Small price for this beauty which sadly has a hairline not visible from the outside. The piece is still strong and healthy.

Size: 28cm x 28 cm.

Marks: "PFouillen" on the decor and "PFouillen Quimper" underneath the base.

Conditions: Perfect apart from this hairline.

Paul Fouillen - Maurice Fouillen

Description: Studio piece made by Paul Fouillen's son. Maurice has also created personnal artwork, this is one beautiful example.

Description: Great loocking item again by Maurice Fouillen. Medieval & Celtic theme familiar to the Fouillen's factory. The plate has been molded by hand, corners have been curled. 2 holes at the back for hanging. Beautiful piece with a very light hairline when it was fired.

HB - Paul Fouillen

Description: Very large broderie piece (also called "perlé") outstanding work. Design is typical from Paul Fouillen's work, hence this piece is attributed to him. Museum piece.

Conditions: Perfect,microscopic flee bites the glaze did not cover.

HB - Jean-Claude Taburet

Description: Studio piece from JC Taburet. Fish dish with fantatstic shades of blue and grey. Two firing cracks almost invisible from the front of the piece. Unique.

Size: 32cm x 20cm.

Marks: "JC Taburet HB Quimper" at the back

Conditions: Perfect apart from the 2 firing hairlines.

Description: Another example of the broderie production. Stylish ashtray with "breton" decor. Probably from the 1930-1940's.

Atelier du Steir - Jos Le Corre

Description: After his collaboration with Kéraluc Jos Le corre created his own potery with Georges Connan, this is one of the piece from this period with its unique style. Pure and simple. Circa 1960's.
